Wocktail #13: Execution Elixir, The Invisible Save πΈΒ
We have all heard the expression that execution is just βfollowing the planβ. Adorable, right?
Reality: by the time you begin, the plan is already out of date. A week of navigation often looks like priorities changing on Tuesday, resources dwindling by Thursday, and results still expected on Friday.
All jest aside (mostly), execution involves reallocating people mid-flight, resetting timelines, and owning tradeoffs. It is the constant and quiet course-adjustment, alongside the reconciliation of competing demands. Decisions are made swiftly with imperfect information, and the impact ripples across teams where authority may not exist.
Execution is not neat, not linear and far from sparkling! π₯ It becomes the act of juggling moving parts while keeping everyone progressing forward. Maintaining this momentum also involves navigating uncertainty without signalling instability, all while remaining calm and composed. Sound familiar?
Execution is the invisible work.Β Often unnoticed when it succeeds; always noticed when it fails.
